Disco Elysium: Will there be console version? Disco Elysium guide, walkthrough

Last update: 15 July 2024

Disco Elysium is a title that initially was only available to PC players, but over time the list of platforms was expanded to include other devices. On this page of the guide, you will learn about the availability of the game on consoles, as well as whether console controls are convenient and if you should expect any issues with performance, bugs, and the operation of the game.

All supported consoles

  1. Disco Elysium was originally only released on PC. Since then, the game has been released on all popular console platforms. You can play it on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. For consoles with a drive or cartridge slot, it is also possible to purchase a boxed copy of the game.
  2. The console versions are The Final Cut editions, featuring many fixes and extensive content. For more information about the changes and enhancements, visit the separate FAQ page What's new and what contains The Final Cut edition?

Interface and controls on consoles

1 - Disco Elysium: Will there be console version? - FAQ - Disco Elysium Guide
  1. The control in console versions isn't as convenient as in the PC version, mainly because of the absence of a traditional cursor.
  2. The left analog is used to move the character. You can't just point it at your destination, and you have to keep the analog tilted until you reach your desired spot.
  3. The right analog is used to switch between interactive points. These can be, for instance, bullets or objects that can be examined/taken away. This can increase the time it takes to identify the correct object if there are a large number of them on a given screen.
2 - Disco Elysium: Will there be console version? - FAQ - Disco Elysium Guide
  1. The lack of a cursor also makes it difficult to use menu windows, such as inventory, journal, or Thought Cabinet. Bumpers (L1/LB and R1/RB) or triggers (L2/LT and R2/RT) are used to switch between tabs. The game can make it easier by displaying icons of buttons on the screen that are linked to selecting a different tab or menu.
  2. When playing on the controller, you also have to jump to the adjacent slots in turn - you can use the left analog or d-pad buttons. So, you are unable to swiftly indicate a distant area on the screen.

Console versions performance

  1. Unfortunately, no console version of the game offers a consistent 60 frames per second, and this also applies to the PlayStation 5 and XSX versions. There are slight drops in animation, for example, when traveling around the city or in the bar area of the Whirling-in-Rags hostel. Fortunately, the game doesn't contain arcade elements and its performance doesn't hinder the gameplay.
  2. Disco Elysium runs smoothly on consoles - console players shouldn't experience game freezes or major bugs that could prevent them from progressing. The launch state of the console versions was much worse, but since then the game has received major updates to improve its technical condition.
