Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Gets Release Date on Steam

The developers of Microsoft Flight Simulator informed that the game will be released on Steam on the same day as in Microsoft Store. A lot of information about support for VR and modding tools was also revealed.

The game will debut next month.
IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The game will be released simultaneously on Steam and Microsoft Store;
  2. 414 third-party developers are working on content for the game;
  3. Full development tools will be provided to every player;
  4. It will be possible to sell mods;
  5. Support for VR in the fall;
  6. Support for TrackIR from the day of release.

We finally found out when Microsoft Flight Simulator will debut on Steam. It turns out that no temporary exclusivity is planned and the game will launch on Steam on August 18, this year, the same day as in Microsoft Store. Concerns about exclusivity resulted from the fact that, when the release date was revealed a few weeks ago, only the second of these stores was mentioned. At the same time, a set of impressive video materials prepared by IGN and PC Gamer was released.

By the way, the developers revealed a lot of other information about the game. It was announced that support for VR goggles will be added to Microsoft Flight Simulator for free this fall with an update. On the day of release, the game will support the TrackIR controller.

In addition, it has been confirmed that 414 third-party developers have already been given access to tools for creating new content. Companies such as Aerosoft, Orbx, Gaya Simulations, PMDG, FlyTampa, Carenado and VATSIM are already working on additional airports and planes. Many of them also help with work on the the simulator itself.

In addition, anyone who buys the game will have access to the same tools that the creators of Microsoft Flight Simulator used to develop the scenery, missions and machines. Importantly, modders will be able to sell their creations. For those unfamiliar with this series, the idea of paid mods may seem strange, but the previous parts have been given a wealth of noteworthy unofficial additions, and the community has never had a problem paying for good mods.

After the launch, Microsoft Flight Simulator will be developed with both updates and paid additions. It is possible that in this second category there will be a DLC introducing the possibility of flying helicopters.

It is worth mentioning that on August 18 the game will only debut on PC. There are also plans to release it on Xbox One, but for now it is not known when it would take place.
