Sony hasn't learned its lesson from the scandal surrounding Helldivers 2. The Japanese giant has revealed that the PC version of God of War: Ragnarok will require a PlayStation Network account.

Yesterday during the State of Play show, Sony announced a PC version of God of War: Ragnarok, the console hit of 2022. The joy of this news was spoiled a bit by the news that the PC release will require a PlayStation Network account. What's even worse, the Steam PC version of the remastered Until Dawn had its card changed yesterday, also adding the same requirement there.

For many players, the requirement of having a PlayStation Network account may only be a cause for irritation. Residents of more than a hundred other countries face a significantly larger problem where this service is not available. How abnormal this situation is, is well illustrated by the fact that Pavel Djundik, the founder of SteamDB, cannot buy these games for this reason.

Certainly, you can provide false information about your place of residence when creating a PSN account or attempting to purchase a key elsewhere and activate it on Steam. However, there is no guarantee that you won't eventually be banned from the PlayStation Network for doing so. Such actions are prohibited by the terms of use of this service, even if Sony is currently not very keen on enforcing them.

The beginning of May was marked by a scandal related to an attempt to force the use of PlayStation Network accounts in the PC version of Helldivers 2. This time, quite unexpectedly, the players won and Sony had to withdraw from this idea. Unfortunately, the corporation didn't see this as a precedent that would determine its future behavior. The requirement to have a PSN account appeared in Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, but only in multiplayer mode.

What's strange in this case is that God of War: Ragnarok and Until Dawn don't have multiplayer options. It's difficult to explain why Sony requires PSN accounts from their players when there was no such requirement in the single-player mode of the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut.

God of War: Ragnarok will be released on PC on September 19 this year. However, we don't know the exact release date of Until Dawn. The devs only state that it will occur in 2024.
