In 3 days, we will see the release of Jagged Alliance 3 - the continuation of the iconic turn-based strategy game series first released in 1994. German website GameStar has received pre-release access to the game, giving us a chance to read the first review.

Pre-release review

According to GameStar's reviewer Jagged Alliance 3 is a worthy successor to the previous installments and a sequel worth waiting for.

Among the game's greatest strengths is supposed to be its extensive main and side content, which GameStar's editors had only a cursory understanding of after about 60 hours of gameplay. The battles are dynamic, aesthetically rendered (even on small scale) and enjoyable in both solo and cooperative gameplay.

Jagged Alliance 3 is also expected to impress with its diversity - ranging from 36 unique mercenaries, to dozens of weapons, and three radically different difficulty levels.. Meanwhile, the wide range of strategies possible to use is supposed to be enough incentive to repeatedly complete the new campaign.

Even the superficial, less important of our decisions are said to have an impact on the game and its world (including our surroundings and buildings, possible to destroy), and their consequences provide a fair but still demanding challenge tailored to both veterans and newcomers to the series.

Unfortunately, after completing the game, the author of the review was left with a burning unanswered questions: after more than 100 hours of play, will the campaign continue to be so engaging? Was it possible to balance the gameplay, which is so extensive, correctly? However, we will most likely find out about this only after the release.

At this point, the member of GameStar's editorial staff has not issued a final rating for the game, but the review includes a predicted score for the title, which is expected to be around 85-90 points out of 100.

If you are a fan of the series, and these first impressions were convincing enough for you, you can preorder Jagged Alliance 3 on Steam (currently 20% off). The game will be released on July 14, exclusively on PC.
