Vampire: The Masquerade - Reckoning of New York

Vampire: The Masquerade - Reckoning of New York is the third part of a series of visual novel adventure games launched in 2019, based on the "paper RPG" system, titled Vampire: The Masquerade. Like the two previous games under this banner, the project is the work of the Polish studio Draw Distance, whose portfolio also includes the Serial Cleaner series.

Plot

Vampire: The Masquerade - Reckoning of New York takes us to the universe of World of Darkness, specifically - to an alternative version of New York in 2024. During the game we embody one of the two characters who are so-called Kindred - vampires trying to maintain their humanity. By playing the role of Kali or Padraic, we find ourselves in the middle of the fight between the Camarilla and the Anarchists. Chased by hunters who constantly tread on our heels, we try to make our mark on the underworld of the city that never sleeps.

Gameplay

Vampire: The Masquerade - Reckoning of New York does not introduce any revolutionary changes to the gameplay mechanics. As in the previous installments of the series, we look at illustrations presenting the characters and locations, read text descriptions of the places and situations in which they are located, as well as records of their conversations. By choosing the appropriate dialogue options, making various choices, or using Disciplines (supernatural abilities of the Kindred), we shape the course of the story and influence its ending.

We must be careful not to fall victim to the thirst for blood, which can awaken the Beast within us. This can lead to the deprivation of our Humanity, and in extreme cases - pushes us to break the rule of the Masquerade, thereby exposing ourselves to the hunters. The appropriate indicators inform us about whether we manage to maintain balance in all these parameters.

Graphics

The hand-drawn graphic design of Vampire: The Masquerade - Reckoning of New York was maintained in a style inspired by the manuals for the "tabletop" version of Vampire: The Masquerade.
