Korea: IL-2 Series PC

Korea: IL-2 Series is a combat flight simulator belonging to the cult series launched in 2001. The game was developed by 1C Game Studios.

Plot

Unlike previous titles under this banner, Korea: IL-2 Series does not tell about the air battles of World War II. The game takes us to the Korean Peninsula, torn by conflict in 1951-1953, over which the forces of the communist North, supported by China and the Soviet Union, and the army of the South, supported by the United States, fought for domination.

Gameplay

In Korea: IL-2 Series we play on a huge map covering an area of 440 by 440 kilometers. The game's world features cities, airports and ports, but also high mountains, valleys of winding rivers or large water reservoirs and dams.

By flying over this territory, we achieve various mission objectives and try to bring the side of the conflict we represent to victory by fighting in the sky with enemy forces. Interestingly, this time we do not play as an ordinary pilot, but as the commander of the entire unit, who is also responsible for personnel management and planning & executing combat missions. On the battlefield, we can give orders to our allies, making use of the improved radio communication system.

The Korean War was the swan song of piston-engine aircraft, as well as a harbinger of impending changes and the domination of jet aircraft over the battlefields. The authors provide us with both types of flying machines, allowing us to take the controls of models such as the modern (for those times) F-86 Sabre or MiG-15, but also those based on outdated solutions, yet still deadly effective F-51D Mustang, F4U Corsair or finally the Il-10 attack aircraft.

The flight model implemented in the game is realistic and takes into account issues related to the aerodynamics of individual models and the capabilities of their engines.

Engine

When preparing Korea: IL-2 Series, the authors focused on the game's engine, which resulted in DirectX 12 support, better lighting and more detailed environments, as well as aircraft models refined with attention to detail. In addition, the creators refreshed the interface and improved the physics.
