Age of Wonders 4: Eldritch Realms

Age of Wonders 4: Eldritch Realms is the fourth expansion to the 4X turn-based strategy released in May 2023. The DLC was developed by the authors of the base game, namely the Triumph Studios team overseeing the development of the series.

Gameplay

Age of Wonders 4: Eldritch Realms focuses on the so-called Umbral Abyss. This is a new, dark and twisted layer of the map, inhabited by umbral demons, whose goal is to sow destruction and take over other realms. It includes unique locations and new maps for tactical combat, as well as previously unavailable independent factions from umbral habitats. Although our units take damage upon entering the umbral abyss, they can be equipped with a minor umbral flesh transformation that negates this effect.

Eternal rulers are associated with the Umbral Abyss. They're distorted beings of great power that we can incarnate. They possess the ability to cast enslaving spells and can dominate over enemies, manipulate the body, or use chaotic magic. The abyss is also associated with the so-called Harvest of Seasons, which is a special cosmic event, including unique units, mechanics, and tactical maps.

In addition to 2 new story realms, the expansion brings 2 previously unavailable forms (syron and insect), 2 mounts (standard beetle and exotic death beetle), books that offer additional enhancements (tentacle, corruption, cleansing flame), and spells, as well as 5 ready-made rulers. The list of new features is rounded off with 2 templates and 3 new terrain features, a thematic interface skin, and 6 atmospheric music tracks by Michiel van den Bos.

Game modes

Similar to the base version of the game, Age of Wonders 4: Eldritch Realms allows for single-player fun or multiplayer gameplay over the Internet.

Technical aspects

Age of Wonders 4: Eldritch Realms is a non-standalone add-on, so it requires the base version of Age of Wonders 4 to run.
