Product description

The video game “Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture” tells the story of the inhabitants of a remote English valley who are caught up in world-shattering events beyond their control or understanding. Made by The Chinese Room -- the studio responsible for the hauntingly beautiful video game “Dear Esther” -- this tale of how people respond in the face of grave adversity is a non-linear, open-world experience that pushes innovative interactive storytelling to the next level.

Jessica Curry is a BAFTA nominated composer and joint Studio Head at The Chinese Room, an award-winning game development studio based in Brighton. She wrote the “Dear Esther” score which won several prestigious awards for music and audio. Her award winning “Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs” score received a hugely positive reaction from fans and critics alike.

Jessica was a jury panel member for the 2014 BAFTAs and recognition for her work on environmental storytelling, audio and music has come from diverse sources including SXSW, Radio 3, Classic FM and international exhibitions at ZKM and MOMI New York. In 2015 Jessica was delighted to be named in MCV's 100 Women in Games feature. Jessica is now working on The Chinese Room's forthcoming PS4 title “Everybody's Gone to the Rapture” - the game pre-release has already won Gamespot's Best of E3 and was nominated for Best in Show and Best PS4 game by IGN.

I love the work of 'The Chinese Room' and truly appreciate their efforts to transcend gaming culture from mindlessly killing things to something more ethereal, empathetic and emotional. The game is good - it captures the atmosphere of my younger days and addresses the things that were going on in the 80's in an interesting way. The feelings of dread and impending apocalypse were tangible at that time – I seemed to spend most of my youth wondering when the nuclear holocaust was going to come or when the human race would be wiped out by an unstoppable disease.
Of course, with hindsight we are all older and wiser. We are no longer so easily led by the media and we are not so willing to swallow the propaganda perpetuated by a government trying to keep control by frightening the crap out of us… Aren't we????
This game addresses the ‘what if’ from those times. It starts when the apocalypse has already happened, which could have made for a very depressing experience. But ‘The Chinese Room’ have used the ‘game’ platform to try to involve the player at an emotional level and key to this is the inclusion of this wonderful music.
Some people will undoubtedly write the music off as ‘just a game soundtrack’. It is much more than that. All of the tracks stand out on their own merits and the only thing that gives away the ‘soundtrack’ design is that some are disappointingly short. The instrumentation, vocal performances, arrangements and production values are all of the highest quality and very deserving of the awards that it has been given.
Jessica Curry has an undoubted talent for the creation of emotional and beautiful music. The balance of intensity and drama giving way to moments of pure musical bliss is lovely. I have played this CD to various people and they have loved it – invoking tears on more than one occasion. When I mentioned that it is a soundtrack for a game, they looked at me in disbelief as though that somehow devalued the music... This is exactly the prejudice that ‘The Chinese Room’ are trying to address and they have done a brilliant job.

I've been excited for this game forever. And liked what I heard of the music on trailers & elsewhere.
I ordered this CD so it would arrive the same day the game came out. But gave in & listened to this gorgeous piece immediately as amazon let me access the mp3 straight away..
If Aled Jones voice on The Snowman did him well, the career of Elin Manahan Thomas deserves to carry on growing fast on account of the beauty of her singing here.
Also, the name Jessica Curry deserves to become even better known also.
Her work here is so moving, such a marvellously melancholy soul touching score, it gives you goosebumps.
Hearing the clever way the game weaves the music to suit the play is amazing as well.
This Soundtrack stands amazingly on it's own.
Hearing it in the game is the icing on the cake, and adds that little extra, but this is a CD I'll keep and listen to forever..

There are no words to describe how beautiful and memorable this soundtrack is.

There are many film/game soundtracks I've really enjoyed over the years, but my enjoyment of them has been increased because of playing the game itself - with this, the music alone is just incredible, and so deeply emotional, it almost breaks your heart to listen to it. It's so full of hope, sorrow, love, sometimes in the space of just a few moments.

Even if you're not into games, just buy it and wallow in the beauty of it.

Yes I liked the game but I have fallen in love with this album. This CD demonstrates not only her technical excellence in composition and orchestration but her in her ability to move you emotionally with music.
Simply outstanding, should with awards. Obviously helped with stunning performances from all too.
For an indie game to use real musicians rather than sample libraries is surprising and nice too, hope sales off the game justified the expense 😉
Glad they did though.

Fantastic score. Its one of the very best soundtracks of 2015 and works very well as a piece of music away from the original game. Indeed it functions well enough as a piece of Classical music that knowledge of the game isn't neccesary. Haunting and sad and lovely, very pastoral and very English. Truly deserves a wider audience than videogame music usually gets. I'll be fascinated to see what Jessica Curry does next.

Just fell in love with the music whilst playing this innovative and beautiful game. Recording was done at Air Studios which is possibly one of the most wonderful orchestral recording spaces in the UK. Imagine Vaughan Williams for the 21st century.

Whilst it might be more accurate to describe it as an experience rather than a game, EGTTR succeeds (for me personally) in no small part due to its beautiful and haunting music. I bought the CD and it has had a permanent place in my car's CD player.
Well worth every penny, as was the 'game', in my opinion.

Lovely CD. I was fascinated by the music of Everybody's gone to the rapture (along with all the rest of the game) and bought this CD as soon as I finished it. With her music Jessica Curry transformed this game into a masterpiece. If ever the world ends in light, this is probably what it will feel like.

5.0 out of 5 stars A far better soundtrack than this game deserved
Reviewed in Canada on 22 May 2016
Very very incredible music, that was necessary to this game. But if you happen to be reading this as someone who's never played the game, I might recommend this even more strongly in fact. I almost wish that I could listen to it and let my imagination show me what it wants instead of what I saw during the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gran música
