The Little Acre for PC and XONE is a debut of Pewter Games Studios, an independent studio established in 2013. Even in view of the fact that this is the first game of the studio, the game maintains high-quality visuals, an interesting gameplay based around exploration and puzzle solving, and a complex, multi-faceted plot.

Plot

The story begins in Ireland, year 1950. We are introduced to a pair of characters – Aidan, and his adolescent daughter, Lily. The man discovers some clues about his long-lost father, and as a result of series of unnatural occurrences, is teleported to an alternative, fantasy universe. The new world mixes fairy-tale elements with steampunk and science-fiction influences, with complex devices working alongside magic wielders. Lily also decides to enter this mysterious world, supporting her father in his effort to save the granddad, and fighting her own weaknesses.

The story is introduced through in-game cut-scenes, while the new clues are revealed through found notes and conversations with encountered characters. The game really stresses its fantasy elements – we meet normal animals, as well as their overdrawn counterparts, endowed with uncanny abilities.

Mechanics

The Little Acre for PC and XONE is a two-dimensional, point-and-click adventure game, with action seen from two perspectives – as the gameplay is seen from a side, in a manner similar to genre classics, as well as from an isometric view. The game throws the players at numerous environmental puzzles and imaginative riddles, solved by using the right items and their combinations. The significant part of the game is devoted to exploration of the fantasy lands and fanciful interiors, and conversing with encountered characters. These actions allow gathering clues necessary for solving the current problems, as well as push the plot forward.

Technical Aspects

The Little Acre for PC and XONE is characterized by its hand-drawn visuals, bringing many animated movies, and cult-classic point-and-click titles to mind. All conversations have been dubbed, while the game itself received an original soundtrack, fitting the fairy-tale atmosphere.
